Nathan is a self taught painter that stubbornly abstains from formal training. He has such a fear of creative stagnancy, that he is constantly switching ideas, techniques, and influence. Heavily influenced by Abstract Expressionism and the Dada movement; his favored painting approach is very spontaneous and subconscious, quieting the mind to let the present moment guide the paintings' fate. The pieces gain momentum from subliminal gestures. Then line, color, form, and texture influence the work. These compositions appear to be in control and chaotic as the same instant. Paintings as large as 96in. wide allow the viewer to be engulfed in the action that created the piece. Large brushstrokes with splats and drips create abstractions that let go of restraint and ask the viewer to do the same. Nathan is constantly inspired by the beauty of the Pacific Northwest, and lives in Seattle, Washington.
